Parenting Strategies Cont’d
Parents should partake in activities with their children.
They can place children in mentoring programs.
Support and encourage them in positive aspects.
Parents should act as supervisors (Hirschi, 2017).
Parents can improve their relationships through organizing activities that they can be involved in together with their children. These activities build healthy associations between them and are effective in reducing chances or cases of delinquent behavior. Examples may include going for swimming, adventures or family holidays. In such circumstances, they get to share experiences and interact positively with each other. Mentoring programs provide children with opportunities to learn from senior individuals who can support them and shape their character. The programs promote positive development of the children. As a parent, one should be supportive of his or her children by listening to them and being an ally that they can turn to at any time. Parents should encourage their young ones to be involved in healthy activities whether in school or at home. They can get into sports, music or drama. Parents should generally supervise their children, in that, they should guide their children. They should be keen on the behaviors of the children and guide them back on track in case they do something wrong. Public and private family agencies are also vital.
ECHO parenting and education.
Home-based parent support services (Hawkins & Catalano, 2017).

Public and private family agencies help prevent juvenile delinquency by focusing on the input of the family towards the growth and development of children (Hawkins & Catalano, 2017). Family Structures
Single parent households have children with either one father or mother.
Some parents are never home in other cases.
At times parents are predisposed with their jobs (Hirschi, 2017).
In other situations children may have lost both parents (Hirschi, 2017).
Family structures are integral parts of the community. Single parent households are generally regarded as broken homes whereby the spouse break up for various reasons. The custody of children may be shared or one half of the parents is left to take care of them. Other parents are usually totally absent from the relationship as they choose to stay away from their families. In some cases, other responsibilities of parents take center stage which affects the time they have for their children. Employment situations are the main cause of the preoccupation. The jobs of parents may result in them being away from their families for long stretches. Unfortunate circumstances occur when a parent(s) passes away and children are left without parental figures (Hirschi, 2017).
6
Impact of Family Structure
Children lack association that fosters proper maturation.
Young ones are more likely to be exposed to negative influences (Hirschi, 2017).
There is poor supervision of the youth.
There is minimal interaction and support for children.
These effects contribute to development of delinquent behavior (Hirschi, 2017).
There are many aspects that contribute towards occurrence of delinquency. The family structure leads to development of situations that result in negative outcomes. Children without a present father for instance may try to learn how to be adults from parents of their peers. They do not have the necessary structure in place which makes them assert their masculinity through displaying delinquent behavior. The parents are not available to guide the development of their children thus the wayward behavior. As parents are busy with their jobs and other responsibilities they lack the time to supervise the activities of their children. This gives them opportunities to get into negative behaviors. Single-parent families have children who are more likely to be exposed to factors that promote crime such as alcoholism and conflict. The lacking communication and support to children leaves them without the proper guidance. Family interaction or lack thereof influences the behavior of children. These aspects are the main reasons why some many youth have engaged in delinquent behaviors (Hirschi, 2017).
7
Parenting Styles
There are three main forms of parenting.
There is authoritative style which integrates care, structure and limits .
Authoritarian style emphasizes knowledgeability of parents.
Permissive style does not provide room for behavioral guidelines (Tavassolie et al., 2017).
The authoritative style mainly involves parents who are loving and kind but also firm. There are boundaries to be observed and children should do as required. There is a balance between being strict and indulging the children. The children are allowed to make some decisions on their own as long as they are appropriate to their age. Generally, there are rules and guidelines to be observed and the children are encouraged to be more responsible as they grow (Tavassolie et al., 2017).
Authoritarian style presents parents as strict in their efforts towards raising their children. Such parents try to control every aspect of their child’s life and hardly permit the young individuals to make their own choices. This style entails high levels of obedience and children cannot question what their parents do. Disciplinary methods are part of this parenting (Tavassolie et al., 2017).
Permissive style of parenting entails indulgent behavior towards children. There are no rules and consequences are minimal. Children are left to act as they desire provided there is no physical harm done (Tavassolie et al., 2017).

Relation of the Styles to Delinquency
The parenting styles factor in the level of support and control given to children.
They influence capacity of children to adapt.
They determine the nature of child outcomes.
The impact is mainly on the behavior of children (Tavassolie et al., 2017).
The different forms of parenting matter in the upbringing and development of children. The nature of support and control determines how they end up. Authoritarian style is mainly high control and low support. Authoritative style is high support and control while permissive style is low control and low support. These style configure certain attitudes, tendencies and behaviors in children. As such a specific style influences how the behaviors of a child and affects occurrence of delinquency. The authoritarian style enhances the adaptability of children which makes them to conform to rules and guidelines while permissive style may result in resistance to rules. These styles provide a certain structure to children which translates to how they behave. Delinquent behavior can be directly associated with the type of style used (Tavassolie et al., 2017).

Conflicts Within Family
Disagreements between partners with children.
Separation of parents.
Breaking up normal family settings.
These aspects promote development of negative behavior.
Children exposed to conflict are more likely to engage in delinquent behavior.
The separation removes the appropriate support structure for children (Hirschi, 2017).
Conflicts between parents results in disagreements that have far reaching consequences. At times they temporarily separate or they may permanently part ways. The absence of a parent from the family removes the support, guidance and structure that children need in order to develop appropriate behaviors. The conflicts expose children to poor environment for development as they create attitudes that contribute to delinquency (Hirschi, 2017).
10

Conflict and family structure affect the issue.
Parents should apply proper strategies to protect against the problem.
They should take advantage of community services available to them.
Appropriate parenting styles should be utilized in fostering good behavior.
