• Address the following:
o Your personal goals for this course including what you hope to learn
This is my last semester of the program and I am looking forward to completing the program. My personal goals are to perfect my assessment skills, improve lab interpretations, and develop appropriate diagnosis as well as differential diagnoses. Settings and populations you have worked with in the past, will be working with this semester, and hope to work with in the future
I have been working in the outpatient setting, treating people of all ages, as my clinical site is a family practice. I would have loved to do a rotation inpatient, but unfortunately, that was not possible. So this semester, I will be working outpatient in the same clinic as last semester with the same preceptor. I actually want to work outpatient in the future, so I am glad that I am getting the experience now.
o Your goals as a PMHNP
My goals as a PMHNP is to provide psychiatric care to the underserved population, I will also be pursuing my doctoral degree in the near future.
o Skills you feel that you have adequately developed
I think I have developed the ability to form good rapport with my patients and make them feel comfortable interacting with me whether on the phone or in person.
o Skills you plan to improve this semester and how you plan to improve
I improve on my time management skills. I tend to run over the time due to the fact that I have a difficult time talking to patients and documenting at the same time. I am sure I will get better as time go on and I start to work in the field seeing patients on a full time basis.
o Additional thoughts, concerns, or worries
My concerns are that after completing the program, study and seat for the boards. I still will not be ready to see patients on my own even though I currently complete the visits by myself at clinical with minimal assistance from my preceptor. But knowing that he is there, gives me comfort.
