Question
Choose from one of the following two options:
- Watch a movie whose primary audience is between early to middle childhood.
- Read a book (this includes picture books) aimed somewhere between early to middle childhood. [Public libraries will have lots of options, and they are short enough to read/ take notes on without having to check them out of the library if desired. -- the option to use the public library may not be available due to the pandemic.]
For either option:
Summarize the movie/ book- tell me what happened (stick to the highlights & necessary information only; keep it succinct!) If it’s a picture book, briefly describe the artwork as well.
What area(s) of gender development are related most to the content of this film/ book? How was the depiction of the milestone/ theory accurate? If it was inaccurate, how so?
What messages or ideas about development and/ or human behavior does the movie/ book send? Do you think these messages are intentional or not?
How did learning about the relevant topic in class help you understand the show/ book differently than you might have before taking the class?
Students should integrate their answers to the above questions into their essays, they should not answer them in bulleted format.
