Objective
The proposed plan seeks to address the problem of poor safety culture in the organization. The interview conducted with a nurse revealed the poor safety culture in the organization, which predisposes patients to harm. The approach to addressing the problem entails providing training and education to staff in the organization on the best practices to enhance patient safety culture. The training will focus on aspects such as increasing the awareness of the staff about the need for them to strive for safe operations, advocating and supporting blame-free environment, collaboration, and use of best practices in the care process.
Achieving the objective of improving the safety culture in the organization will result in enhanced patient and organizational outcomes. There will be a reduction in safety issues such as medication errors, which predispose patients to unintended harm. There will also be a reduction in healthcare costs with improved safety since the length of hospitalization among patients will decrease (Lee et al., 2019). The hospital will benefit from improved efficiency because of reduced use of resources to address the needs of their patients and other stakeholders.
Questions and Predictions
1) What impact will training and education have on staff’s attitude, perception, and practices towards patient safety culture?
– The proposed training and education of the staff on best practices to enhance patient safety culture in will result in their positive attitude, perception, and practices. It will raise their awareness about safety culture and motivate them to identify effective strategies they can enhance safety in their diverse roles.
2) How will using the Five A’s Behavior Change Modelcontribute to realization of the desired outcomes for this project?
– The Five A’s Behavior Change Model will provide effective strategies to promote behavioral change among the healthcare providers. It will provide insights into strategies to promote preparedness and minimize the risk of resistance from the staff.
3) What organizational factors determine the success of the proposed plan?
– Organizational support in forms such as resource, financial and human resource support will influence the success of the plan. Transforming the existing culture is also essential for the success of the proposed plan. Leadership and management support will enable the effective implementation of the project initiatives.
Change Theories and Leadership Strategies
Change theories are models that guide the implementation of change and facilitating behavioral change among the adopters. Change theories will guide the proposed plan. The Five A’s Behavior Change Model will inform the proposed plan. The five A’s model is a theory to promote change that recognize the need for concepts that include assess, advise, agree, assist, and arrange in the implementation of change. The model will inform the best practices for the project. First, information about knowledge, beliefs, and behaviors of the healthcare providers will be obtained in the assess phase (Hagger et al., 2020). The information will provide insights into the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities among the staff that should be addressed in the proposed plan.
The second step in the model is advising the staff. This will entail utilizing the assessment data to provide staff specific information about safety culture and the benefits of changing their existing behaviors. They will also be informed about the best practices they should incorporate into their care and the resources they should utilize to enhance safety culture in the organization. Collaborative strategies will be explored in the agree stage. This is where interventions such as seeking input from the healthcare providers, setting goals and strategies collaboratively will be adopted. Collaboration will help the staff develop the confidence that they need to implement and sustained best practices for safety culture in the organization. Strategies to address identified barriers to behavioral change will be implemented in the assist phase. For example, training, education, open communication, and seeking and providing feedback will be used to promote continuous improvement in practices and behaviors (Hagger et al., 2020). Lastly, follow-up will be provided in the arrange phase to ensure sustainability of behaviors and strategies to improve safety culture in the organization.
One of the leadership strategies that will be adopted for the success of the plan is encouraging open communication. The healthcare providers will have the freedom to express their input and concerns about the proposed plan. Two-way communication between the staff, leadership, and management will be encouraged to increase adopter awareness and minimize the risk of resistance to change (Lee et al., 2019; O’Donovan et al., 2019). Open communication will strengthen trust and honesty among the healthcare providers, hence, the implementation of provider-centered interventions to enhance safety culture.
Team Collaboration Strategy
The implementation of the proposed plan will be a collaborative initiative. It will comprise team members that include hospital administrator, human resource manager, and head of physicians, nurse leader, and nurse managers. The hospital administrator will oversee the overall implementation of the plan. He will also lobby for the required resources for the plan. Human resources manager will ensure the provision of appropriate training and educational opportunities to the staff. Head of physicians and nurse leader will oversee the implementation of the strategies by the respective professionals. Nurse Managers will work with other nurses to implement and provide feedback about effective and recommended strategies for the success of the plan.
Several collaboration approaches will be adopted in the proposed plan. One of them will be assigning roles and responsibilities to each of the project representatives. Assigning roles will prevent duplication of tasks and redundancies in the project implementation process. The other strategy will be active stakeholder participation. Each of the stakeholders involved in the plan will play an active role to promote their empowerment and ownership of the project initiatives. The other approach would be rewarding performance. Regular assessments will be performed to determine improvements and rewards given to enhance outcomes (Han et al., 2020; O’donovan & Mcauliffe, 2020). Rewards will motivate the healthcare providers to explore additional strategies to improve safety of care in the organization.
Required Organizational Resources
Adequate resources are needed for the success of the plan. Human resources including hiring additional staff and trainers of trainees are needed. The estimated cost for the human resources is $200000. Materials such as booklets and brochures about the best practices are also required for use by healthcare providers for an estimated cost of $50000. Equipment to facilitate training such as projectors and sound systems are needed. The estimated cost is $20000. There is also a need for financial allocation for follow-up, which is estimated to be $20000. The estimated cost for miscellaneous expenditure is $30000. Overall, the total cost for the proposed plan is $320000.
Failure to implement the plan is associated with negative consequences. First, the rates of safety issues such as medication errors, patient falls, and hospital-acquired infections will rise significantly. The costs incurred by patients and the hospital in providing care services will also increase. The performance of the hospital will also decline because of high rate of patient dissatisfaction with care and turnover among healthcare providers (Kumbi et al., 2020). Unsuccessful plan will translate into resource wastages. It may also result in a demoralized workforce, which will affect the success of future change initiatives. Lastly, there may be delays in achieving the set objectives in the organization should the plan be unsuccessful.
Conclusion
The proposed plan aims at improving the safety culture in the organization. The proposed intervention entails the provision of education and training to the staff on best practices to enhance safety culture. Effective leadership and collaborative strategies will be explored. Adequate resource support is essential for the success of the plan.

Professional Context

This assessment will allow you to describe a plan proposal that includes an analysis of best practices of interprofessional collaboration, change theory, leadership strategies, and organizational resources with a financial budget that can be used to solve the problem identified through the interview you conducted in the prior assessment.

Scenario

Having reviewed the information gleaned from your professional interview and identified the issue, you will determine and present an objective for an interdisciplinary intervention to address the issue.

Note: You will not be expected to implement the plan during this course. However, the plan should be evidence-based and realistic within the context of the issue and your interviewee’s organization.

For this assessment, use the context of the organization where you conducted your interview to develop a viable plan for an interdisciplinary team to address the issue you identified. Define a specific patient or organizational outcome or objective based on the information gathered in your interview.

The goal of this assessment is to clearly lay out the improvement objective for your planned interdisciplinary intervention of the issue you identified. Additionally, be sure to further build on the leadership, change, and collaboration research you completed in the previous assessment. Look for specific, real-world ways in which those strategies and best practices could be applied to encourage buy-in for the plan or facilitate the implementation of the plan for the best possible outcome.
