The City
My hometown of Huntington, WV, is located in the southwestern part of the state along the banks of the Ohio River, at the junction where West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky collide. Named after the famed railroad tycoon, Collis P. Huntington, Huntington was once a bustling rail-to-river town that served as a vital transfer point from the western United States; shuttling goods along the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway that were bound for the eastern seaboard ports (Encyclopaedia Britannica, n.d.; Huntington, West Virginia, n.d.).
Huntington is also home to Marshall University; a state-funded coeducational public university founded in 1837 and named after the fourth Chief Justice of the United States, John Marshall (Marshall University website, n.d.).
