2. Topic: Nursing Education Practicum
3. Practicum setting: The Mother and Child Health clinic targeting mothers with babies less than four months
4. Learners: Graduate-level Class
5. Lesson Outcomes (Include additional outcomes as needed.)
6. Grasp and enhance understanding of various teaching strategies utilized. The learners are expected to study through action. This implies that students will be needed to apply what they learn. The objective is to ensure that they not only understand the concepts but also acquire the best out of the concepts.
7. Understand how to effectively leverage the nursing processes in developing effective nurse-patient relationships. The current healthcare system emphasizes the delivery of individualized care. This patient-oriented care comprises the delivery of healthcare that respects and is responsive to patients’ values, beliefs, preferences, and needs. The realization of patient-oriented care requires more understanding of not only the patient’s health concerns but also of patients as individuals. As such, nursing students need to develop more insights into building effective therapeutic relationships with patients in the entire nursing process for a better and successful patient-nurse partnership.
8. Develop more insights about the essence of evidence-based research in nursing education. Nursing education is the mainstay of outstanding nursing practice. The advancement of nursing education relies heavily on research and its application. The learners will be required to gain an understanding of how nursing education and its progression are related to evidence-based research.
9. Develop a problem-based approach to nursing situations. This practicum will be delivered using evidence-based teaching techniques and the learners will be empowered to use a problem-based approach to practical situations and problems within the healthcare facility. Nursing students require real-life knowledge to survive n the field and not only the theoretical knowledge that they get in classes. As such, using the problem-based learning strategy is essential in helping the students to get hands-on skills for clinical practice.
10. Evidence-Based Teaching Strategies (Describe the strategies you will use to teach the content and address the diverse learning styles of the students. Include additional strategies as needed.)
11. Case-based approach teaching strategy involves engaging students in a discussion of particular scenarios that are similar to real-world examples (Bi et al., 2019). This strategy is student-centered with immense interaction between learners as they develop their knowledge and work collectively as a group to assess the case.
12. Educational simulation is a teaching strategy that can be used in this case to assess the knowledge and skill levels of the learners by putting them in scenarios that require them to actively address problems (Andersen et al., 2020).
13. Demonstration is a teaching strategy that uses visuals such as PowerPoint, posters, and flipcharts to communicate ideas (Devi et al., 2019). In this case, pictures of breastfeeding mothers may be utilized to help learners know how to handle babies. For instance, a picture demonstrating how to position newborn babies while breastfeeding.
14. Small group teaching is a strategy where learners collectively engage in a free discussion on a specific topic and entails active listening. This strategy creates a safe and active learning environment with immense opportunities for peer-peer interactions.

• Opening activities:
• Briefing learners to activate previous knowledge, engage learners and establish objectives of learning.
• Remind nurses of the vital role they play in mother and child health and development
• Define the learning content
• Explain the steps and processes that learning will take
• Opening activities will take 3-5 hours in length
• Teaching and learning activities:
• Delivering the content involving breastfeeding, child immunization, child nutrition, mother and child hygiene, and signs of danger in both mother and the baby.
• Teaching and learning activities include case studies in lesson plans, quizzes, role-play, snowballing, brainstorming, presentations, buzz groups, discussions, group learning, and problem-solving activities for learners.
• Teaching and learning activities will take 12-16 hours in length..
• Closing activities:
• Question and answer sessions to enhance teaching and allow learners to explore areas they never understood appropriately.
• Summary of the topics covered.
• Closing activities will be 4 hours in length.

5. Evaluations (How will the students demonstrate what they have learned?)

Formative evaluation(s): Formative evaluation will be used during learning to provide continuous feedback that can be utilized by the instructors to enhance their teaching and can also be used by learners to enhance their learning. It is essential in increasing rigor by helping instructors collect data that shows learners’ strengths, weaknesses, and needs (Yanik et al., 2023). Once the instructors have acknowledged what students need, they can develop rigorous teaching strategies that challenge every learner.
7. Summative evaluation(s): Summative evaluation will be used to assess the student’s learning at the end of learning by what the students learned against some benchmark or standards (Yanik et al., 2023). Summative assessment is usually high stakes, which implies that they have a superior point value. This assessment offers detailed insights to instructors. It indicates areas that were successful and the areas that failed. Based on this information, instructors can make necessary adjustments to address the weak areas. An example of summative assessment includes a final project.
