Instructions and Assignment Details
Introduction: Interview a nursing leader (maintain confidentiality) in your organization/unit (past or
current) that you consider to be an exemplary leader. Classmates are not to be interviewed. See
BrightSpace for detailed instructions and criteria. Submit an email to course faculty with the name and
work contact information for the leader selected to be interviewed. Failure to complete this task will result in an automatic grade reduction of 10%.
Objectives
1. Analyze leadership concepts, skills, and decision-making strategies in professional practice.
2. Compare and contrast leadership and management.
3. Discuss the influence of nursing leadership styles on decision-making.

Instructions

2. Complete the assigned interview.
3. Develop a short paper using the Content Areas listed below.
4. Submit to the Assignment to Week 5 area Assignment 2 Leadership Interview and Improvement
by the posted due date.
Assignment Content Parts
1. Content Area 1: APA Cover Page
2. Content Area 2: APA Introduction
a. Include a 3 to 5 sentences giving context to the paper including the purpose statement of
the assignment.
3. Content Area 3: Leader Introduction and Leadership Attributes
a. Introduce the leader and his/her professional, experiential, and educational background.
b. Summarize the interview in narrative format describing the attributes that make an exemplary nursing leader in their organization.
4. Content Area 4: Analysis
a. Write a narrative critique based on your interview with a nursing leader.
i. Discuss a minimum of three (3) leadership attributes this person discussed in your interview. Support your critique with relevant quotations from your interview using the APA citation for personal communications. Do not use direct quotes over 20 words.
ii. Give specific examples of how this person demonstrates these qualities and why you feel these attributes are especially important in nursing leadership.
5. Content Area 5: Evidence-Based Leadership Reflection
a. Reflect on your own leadership skills and discuss how you would incorporate and or apply the three attributes described by the leader into your own nursing practice. Support with current literature
6. Content Area 6: Conclusion
a. Include a 3 to 4 sentences summarizing the major points and purpose of the paper. Do not
introduce new content.

a. All references must be listed on a new page and in alphabetical order by author last name.

Submit: Submit an email to course faculty with the name and work contact information for the leader
selected to be interviewed. Failure to complete this task will result in an automatic grade reduction of
10%. Submit approximately 3 pages of content in paragraph format plus one APA cover page and one
page of . Use Level 1 and Level 2 APA headings to demonstrate organization are
required. See the Success Center if you need help with APA headings.
1. Papers longer than 4 pages of content will not be graded after the end of page 3.
2. The completed assignment must include an APA title page. References must start on a new page,
the final page of the assignment. Two references are required.
3. Upload the completed assignment to the BrightSpace in Microsoft Word by the due date.
4. You may be required to submit the actual sources or articles used as references or submit the
assignment for plagiarism detection such as turnitin.com.
