Learning is an ongoing process, and having clear goals, objectives, and expectations helps students prepare for success in any course. I expect this course to enhance my skills and knowledge in patient examination, healthcare procedures, and documentation skills necessary for my success as an adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner. I also expect to acquire skills and knowledge to manage patients with complex needs in their lifespans.

My strengths include advocacy, where I am keen to ensure patients receive their due care and are treated accordingly by nurses and other care providers. In addition, I am a team player and can collaborate with other healthcare professionals and patients to deliver quality care to patients and achieve shared goals and objectives. I am also a critical thinker and can easily use the information presented to make complex healthcare decisions. I am also empathetic and driven by a strong concern for others. The strengths align with the nursing practice’s core competencies: ethics, scientific foundations, and advocacy (AACN, 2016). These core competencies require nurses to apply clinical knowledge and skills to manage patients within their full scope of practice (AACN). Chan et al.. (2020) note that core competencies outline the behavior of specialists in various fields and help lead behavior and actions of professionals. Adult-gerontology nurse practitioners must recognize clinical trends and patient variations from standard findings and intervene to ensure quality patient outcomes (Chan et al., 2020). The core competencies also require nurses to collaborate with other healthcare providers and play active roles in care teams (Moore et al., 2019). These competencies require nurses to One of my major challenges is time management. I can spend much time on a single client, trying to analyze their information and make rational decisions, compromising care coordination. Time is a limited resource in healthcare, and I need to improve this challenge.
My career goal is to become an AGPCNP in a primary care setting to provide adult-gerontology patients with varied healthcare needs. This course will equip me with skills and prepare me for advanced clinical assessments in primary care. Advanced clinical assessments in primary care are vital in informing clinical decisions such as diagnosis and management of patients (Zhu et al., 2022). This course will thus be significant to improving my clinical skills and knowledge and will contribute to achieving my career goals.
