My Vision and Interests: How do these areas contribute to or inhibit your ability to reach your goals?
Personal VALUES | Influencing FACTORS (positive and negative) |
Responsibilities
I must ensure that I perform well in school, meet work deadlines, take care of my parents, and secure shelter for us. Commitment I am very committed to my work as a nurse and to completing my MSN degree. |
Personal Experience
Growing up, my parents taught me the importance of responsibility and commitment. I watched them work hard to provide a home for us and go to school to better themselves. I also saw them take on additional responsibilities to meet our needs. This has made me understand the importance of taking on responsibilities and being committed to my actions. As a nurse, I have seen the importance of being committed to my patient’s care and striving to provide the best care possible. Family Member(s) My family has been a major influence in shaping my values. They have taught me the importance of responsibility and commitment. They have also provided me with a strong support system and have motivated me to stay focused and committed to my goals. However, they are sometimes a source of pressure and stress when meeting their expectations. They are overly critical of my decisions and choices, which can be discouraging. Friends Encourage me to stay true to my responsibilities and commitments. However, they sometimes convince me to take shortcuts that go against my values. Peers Provides support and encouragement when I am feeling overwhelmed. Mentors Provide a positive example of how to live according to my values. Work-Related I strive to meet deadlines, take on additional responsibilities when needed, and take on new challenges to grow professionally. This helps me to be more organized, productive, and motivated to reach my goals. However, sometimes I do not take time to balance my work and personal life, leading to burnout and difficulty focusing on tasks. |

As a nurse, I value the dignity and worth of each person, and I am committed to promoting their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
My nursing philosophy is reflected in my values, vision, and personal interests. I value integrity, empathy, and respect and strive to incorporate these values into my practice. My vision is to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care that promotes health and healing. I am interested in learning about new advances in healthcare and how they can improve patient outcomes.
Statement of Personal Philosophy:
I believe in living a purposeful and meaningful life guided by my values and beliefs. I value honesty, empathy, and compassion and strive to treat others with respect and kindness. Each person has inherent worth and deserves to be treated with dignity (Debes, 2023). My philosophy is reflected in my values, vision, and personal interests. I value authenticity, self-awareness, and personal growth, and I strive to incorporate these values into my daily life. My vision is to live a life of purpose and meaning and to contribute to the well-being of others. I am interested in learning about different cultures and perspectives, and diversity enriches our lives and strengthens our communities.
Use of Assessment Tools to Formulate Goals
As a new BSN graduate, my short-term goals for the next year are to obtain a job as a registered nurse in an acute care setting, pass the NCLEX exam, and complete continuing education courses to become certified in an area of specialties, such as critical care or emergency nursing.
With 3-5 years of experience, I plan to obtain a leadership position in a nursing department, earn a master’s degree, and publish an article in a professional nursing journal.
Regarding my education, I am enrolled in the RN-MSN program and anticipate completing my studies by the Summer of 2025. My goal is to maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participate in extracurricular activities such as nursing organizations and conferences to enhance my knowledge and networking opportunities.
Specific Strategies
I have developed specific strategies tailored to each objective to achieve my professional goals. I will submit job applications, attend career fairs, and utilize professional connections to obtain a job in an acute care setting. I will also enroll in a comprehensive review course and use study resources such as practice exams and textbooks to pass the NCLEX exam. For continuing education and certification, I will research and enroll in appropriate programs and utilize provided study materials. For my long-term goals of obtaining a leadership position, earning a master’s degree, and publishing an article, I will seek out leadership roles, attend seminars and conferences, research and select a graduate program, write and submit a manuscript for peer review (Buljac-Samardzic et al., 2020). Additionally, I will utilize academic resources, participate in extracurricular activities, and attend conferences to maintain a high GPA and stay current with nursing trends. By setting achievable goals and utilizing available resources, I am confident I can accomplish my professional aspirations.
Priority of Goals
My goals are aligned with my values of integrity, empathy, respect, authenticity, self-awareness, and personal growth. I can work towards becoming a professional nurse and leader in my field by setting achievable goals and utilizing available resources. The priority of my goals is consistent with my values, as I prioritize those goals that will help me to make the greatest impact in my profession. My goals are congruent with each other, as they are all focused on furthering my professional development and advancing my career. My short-term goals are focused on obtaining a job, passing the NCLEX exam, and continuing my education. In contrast, my long-term goals are focused on obtaining a leadership position, earning a master’s degree, and writing and publishing an article.
