DNP 815 A Scientific Underpinnings – Reflective Journal Essay

The reflection essay that follows provides clear evidence of the nurse scholar’s mastery of the course objectives for DNP-815 in Grand Canyon University’s (GCU) Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, as it challenges my personal views as a nurse and human in relation to how we view Health as a general and how others view healthcare. The course also implements the competencies outlined in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN) Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice (American Associations of Colleges of Nursing, n.d) document. The AACN Essentials give all nurses pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree the core competencies they need, from understanding scientific principles to finishing projects.

Central Belief About the Individual Person

Every person invests money or time in something. This assertion is based on the fact that every single person has an insatiable need to gain new knowledge about the wider world. At its core, a significant number of people share the belief that there is a greater power watching over each individual. In addition, people continue to put their faith in traditions despite the fact that we are now living in a more civilized society (Cosgrove, 2006). Ultimately, the nurse believes religion will establish itself here in the long run.

Impact of Personal Worldview on Approach to Patients

In the field of human services, the concept of “perspective” refers to the focal point through which an individual sees the world and interprets it. As a provider of social insurance, the nurse is always conscious of the fact that they serve a diverse range of patients and, as a result, will typically interact with patients who come from a variety of different social foundations. When deciding how the nurse should work with patients, my perspective has always played an essential role in making such decisions. Helping those who are less fortunate, in the nurse’s opinion, is one of the primary sources of happiness. This viewpoint is typically shaped by the teachings of Jesus concerning the value of cherishing one another (Schroyer, 2021).

According to what the Bible teaches, all are responsible for serving others without expecting anything in return for our efforts. In most cases, they approach their work with patients from a Christian point of View. In a manner quite similar to that of Jesus, nurses are filled to bursting with a commitment to serving patients to the very best of their ability. They always give it all to ensure that the care they provide to their patients is of the highest possible standard. To achieve this goal, the nurse believes that it is absolutely necessary to have a solid awareness of the social background of each individual patient. The nurse routinely engages in cross-examination with patients regarding their social base to gain an understanding of their societies and convictions and, as a result, to take these factors into consideration.

Parts of the Environment

A domain is an encompassing concept that you are aware of and that has an effect on the way you spend your life on earth from the perspective of an individual. The concept of a domain can be broken down into its component parts. According to Steg (2013), these components can be classified as either biotic or abiotic influences. Light is the most important component in a scenario. The role that light plays in the evolution of organisms is extremely important. The sun provides the world with the greatest amount of light, which explains why it is the source of so much of the planet’s energy. The strength of the light force varies noticeably, beginning at one location and moving on to the next. The variation in light force is determined by a wide range of variables, some of which are the thickness of the water layer in the environment and the number of particles that are dispersed throughout the atmosphere. There is an insufficient amount of light under trees and overhangs due to the fact that the trees block the light rays.

Temperature is the second component of the situation. The degree of warmth is what we mean when we talk about temperature. Along the same lines as light, temperature can also be thought of as a form of energy. This energy is frequently transformed into heat, which is quantified in terms of calories. Additionally essential to the planet itself is its water supply. It is an essential component in the functionality of the soil. In this way, improper use of water can have a negative impact on the dirt, which can lead to the degradation of the soil. Without water, people simply will not be able to survive.

The connection between Individual and the Environment

In writing, the relationship between a person and the earth is extensively discussed. The nurse has no doubt that a person’s relationship with the environment affects them. In essence, throughout this connection, the earth affects humans in numerous ways. People appear to be in constant contact with nature, and as a result, they are influenced by the planet. The earth has many different effects on a person. The impact of the earth can be seen in both an individual’s actions and their improvement (Cianconi et al., 2020). The circumstances of a person can have a good impact on their development, encounters, prosperity, and recognition. Therefore, a person’s connection to the ground might either have a positive or detrimental impact on their life. Stressors in that state play a significant role in the earth’s effect. The stressors can be constant or very strong. Long-lasting stressors affect people more severely than acute stressors. Since those in this predicament cannot flee their stressors, the effects are desperate.

Individual View of What Constitutes Health

From a personal standpoint, the nurse would define wellness as the body’s capacity for use and efficiency. They genuinely believe that one’s Health is extremely important because it allows them to carry out their daily tasks successfully. To that end, the nurse believes every citizen of every country is entitled to affordable, high-quality medical care (Butts and Rich, 2022). Therefore, nobody should be denied the fundamental right to access high-quality human services both within the United States and in other countries (McCartney et al., 2019). In all honesty, the nurse doesn’t think it’s ethical to deny someone access to high-quality medical care because they have a history of problems. They are aware that some people turn to drugs to treat problems directly related to their lifestyle choices and a lack of understanding about maintaining a healthy way of life. As a result, it is inappropriate to provide humanitarian assistance to such people in a judgmental manner.

The nurse also believes that everyone is qualified to receive training in medical services. Developing programs that can educate individuals generally about important social insurance issues ought to be doable. These initiatives ought to specifically target swarms of helpless people (McCartney et al., 2019). Nevertheless, the nurse believes that the education efforts may be unsuccessful because some individuals have grown accustomed to fast food. Making wellness instruction a requirement for educational courses can play a crucial role in changing this mindset and promoting sensible dietary habits.

How Illness Relates to Health

It’s not quite clear how Health and illness differ from one another. Whatever the case, the nurse wholeheartedly concurs that there is a strong link between Health and illness. Regardless of the difference in meaning between the two words, a disease can be defined as a bodily or mental disturbance that manifests as side effects, tissue damage, or brokenness. As sickness becomes more abstract, so does the concept of illness. The human body can be affected by a variety of disorders. For instance, certain illnesses are unavoidable, while others are unquestionably avoidable. Take note of the recent developments in viewpoints and theories around well-being. According to customs, being healthy was associated with being disease-free (McCartney et al.,2019).

How Nursing Leaders Might Serve Others

Nursing leaders play a critical role in promoting human flourishing within their organizations and communities. They are responsible for creating a culture of care that fosters the well-being of patients, families, and staff. To do this, nursing leaders must embrace certain elements that promote human flourishing. These elements include empathy, trust, collaboration, innovation, and lifelong learning. Collaboration is also essential in nursing leadership, promoting human flourishing by creating a sense of community and shared purpose (Giddens, 2018). Leaders must foster a culture of teamwork where everyone is encouraged to contribute their unique skills and perspectives.

The Focal Purpose behind the Existence of Nursing

The importance of considering others is a key component of nursing presence. As a professional in human services, the nurse believes that considering others is a commitment that should be released by another healthcare provider. To put it more simply, they believe that the essence of nursing presence revolves around patients’ needs. The individual is the center of nursing, regardless of definition or premise. All of my jobs are focused on the satisfaction of the patient; therefore, if, at the end of the day, the patient is satisfied with the care the nurse provided, then they will have succeeded in making a difference in someone’s life. The nurse likes Orem’s Self Care Deficit Theory of Nursing for this reason. This means that people can take care of themselves when they are not incapacitated, but when they are, we nurture them and step in to provide them with the care they require (Nowicki et al., 2020).
