Critique 1: Zaralem Paper
Hello Zeralem, thanks for sharing your white paper on forming genomic-savvy nurses. It is an insightful paper, especially in this age where a complete understanding of the DNA composition of various organisms and microorganisms is key to the development of various healthcare solutions. The application of genomics has increased in recent years to gain access to molecular information about an individual (Calzone et al.,2018). Your proposal of making nurses more aware of genomics is timely and will also go a long way toward getting nurses to be more involved in patient care and be the leaders in introducing the innovations connected to genomics to the general public. You have indicated that the nursing workforce should be made to embrace genomics and apply the same in everyday nursing tasks. What do you think about the idea of introducing genomics as a specialty in the nursing profession so that a particular number of nurses can specialize in this area rather than every nurse going for it?

It is important you pointed out that introducing genomics as part of nurse learning and in workplaces can be a challenge since it will be treated as a change. Therefore, I believe that strategies should be formulated in time to help overcome such challenges and ensure that the introduction of the courses is a success and that it supports the formulation of the Genomic Savvy nurses (Regan et al.,2019). Making Genomics part of the nursing curriculum in the USA needs a multidisciplinary approach where other healthcare professionals are brought on board to offer their expertise in the area. It will also be important to benchmark in nations such as Israel, which has made strides into making genomics a key aspect to study. Benchmarking will allow the stakeholder team to set the required standards and avoid potential pitfalls that have been experienced by the nations such as Israel.

Critique 2: Nancy
Hello Nancy, it has been enjoyable reading your white paper on the secure chat as a means of enhanced communication among clinical staff. I agree with you that the integration of the secure chat with electronic health records would improve communication between the staff and promote interdisciplinary collaboration and timely communication. However, I am just curious to know, are there any similar applications that are currently integrated with the EHR to improve such communications and engagements between professionals? If yes, what are some of the challenges experienced that can be addressed for improvement? Secure chat platforms can take the lead if they can address various concerns that have been negatively impacted by platforms such as Meaningful Use (MU) of health information technology which was championed and promoted by the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) (Sharma, 2018)
A program like secure chat to enhance communication among healthcare professionals can be great. However, the security and confidentiality issues should be addressed since I believe such communications may touch on patients’ private information. The implication is that such programs need to be designed so as to adhere to the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) (Moore & Frye, 2019). The proposed solution of the secure chat will need to have various components that protect the platform from unauthorized use and view, such as an end to end encryption and protection, hence better security. The idea of secure chat could be an impressive proposal to help improve workflow in the patient care environments and enhance patient outcomes. How will the program or platform address aspects such as universal adoption and interoperability? I also believe that substantial training will be needed to enable the professionals to interact with the platform effectively and stay within the set guidelines.
