Course Description:
Achieving patient care outcomes that are of a high quality and protective of patient safety and well-being are paramount to nursing practice. This course will focus on the processes and practices of quality assessment and continuous quality improvement for a variety of healthcare indicators sensitive to nursing interventions. Additionally, students will examine the issue of patient safety and create a model patient safety initiative for a clinical population. Students must earn a grade of C- (70%) or higher in all courses within the RN to BSN degree program to pass the course in the program.

Apply the continuous quality improvement process and tools to improve patient safety for an identified patient problem.
Conduct a root cause analysis of a sentinel event in a health care setting.

Discussion Boards:
Discussion Board topics are tied to specific course Tasks for each week of the session. Discussion board participation and active student engagement in course work is required and evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively by the Instructor. Each week students will be expected to post their initial discussion posting to the discussion board by Thursday. In turn, students will post responses to their colleagues (as specified in the course room) by the following Saturday. Discussion posts will be graded according to the late policy.
