The weekly objectives I have prior knowledge of include strategic management. Strategic management is crucial in the nursing and healthcare industry generally because it defines the future of the organization, set goals that will move the organization towards that future, and determines the key projects needed to attain those goals (Yoder-Wise & Sportsman, 2022). The other objective I have prior knowledge of is health economics. This is a field that assesses and finds systems-based solutions that enhance accessibility, equity, and affordability of healthcare. I understand that health economics is essential because it focuses on how stakeholders’ economic behavior and recipients impact the cost and quality of care (Henderson, 2022). Health economics entails how payment for care is made and processed, and how healthcare systems can be restructured and enhanced.

The weekly objectives that I have no prior knowledge of include financial management for nurses and planning and budgeting. I had no idea about the significant financial responsibilities expected from nurse managers. I have realized that nurse managers are responsible for the finances and budgets of their units (Rezaei, 2021). They ensure that the expenses of a unit fall within its budget. This requires them to share financial expectations with the unit workforce to make them aware of the financial goals within the unit. Nurse Managers also have a responsibility to ensure costs of staffing fall within the budget.
The course-related topics I would like to discuss with my instructor and classmates include health economics, particularly the factors that influence the cost and quality of care in the healthcare industry. There are various questions I have about this course (Cadilhac et al., 2020). How do stakeholders influence the distribution of health care and in what ways can it be enhanced? What influences the supply and demand for health care? How can value be put on health? How can healthcare planning, budgeting, and monitoring be improved?
