CAREER GOALS: STRENGTHS AND CHALLENGES RELATED TO NURSING PRACTICE COMPETENCIES ESSAY
Career Goals
I have several expectations of this course. One of them is learning about the translation of evidence into nursing practice. Advanced practice nurses play a crucial role in the implementation of best practices in their role. They obtain their interventions from sources of evidence-based data such as research articles and practice guidelines. I believe that the course will equip me with these skills. I also anticipate improved knowledge and skills in interprofessional collaboration in the provision of care to patients and their families (Hodges et al., 2019). Interprofessional collaboration enhances care outcomes such as safety and quality.

I have some strengths and weaknesses that relate to my nursing competencies when working with adult. First, I can provide holistic care. I am competent in the delivery of care that not only addresses the disease needs of a patient but other factors that influence the recovery process. I also prioritize patient-centeredness and involvement of adult patients in the delivery of the care that they need. Patient-centeredness and involvement in the care process contribute to their empowerment and satisfaction with care (Saunders et al., 2019). However, my main weakness when caring adult patients is the limited experience in providing inclusive and diverse care. As a result, I look forward to working to address the challenge in this course.
One of the career goals I anticipated to achieve from this course is developing my competencies in nursing research. I hope to expand my knowledge and skills to influence the decisions I make in the patient care process. I also anticipated to improve my knowledge and skills in nursing-related policy issues. I anticipate improved competencies in influencing the decisions made in nursing practice (Taylor et al., 2020). I will use the knowledge to advocate the adoption of policies that align with the needs of the patient populations I care in my practice.
